Teeth Whitening

Dentist-supervised whitening that safely brightens stains and refreshes your smile.

A brighter smile is one of the most immediate and impactful aesthetic changes you can make. Professional teeth whitening safely and effectively reduces discolouration caused by years of coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, dark foods, and the natural yellowing that comes with age — delivering results that over-the-counter products simply cannot match.

Before any whitening treatment begins, your dentist carries out a full examination to confirm your teeth and gums are healthy. Whitening on unhealthy tissue can cause sensitivity or damage, so this step is essential. Your existing dental work — crowns, veneers, and white fillings — will also be noted, as whitening agents do not alter the colour of restorations, and this may need to be factored into your treatment plan.

Your whitening options

  • In-chair whitening: A high-concentration professional-grade gel is applied directly to your teeth and activated under a whitening light. The full treatment is completed in a single 60 to 90-minute appointment, with results visible immediately. This is the fastest and most dramatic option available.

  • Take-home whitening trays: Custom trays are made from a precise impression of your teeth to ensure the gel contacts every surface evenly. You wear the trays at home for a set period each day over one to two weeks, using a prescription-strength gel provided by your dentist. Results are excellent and you have full control over the pace and intensity.

  • Combined approach: An in-chair session followed by take-home maintenance trays gives the most complete and long-lasting outcome, and is often recommended for patients with heavier staining.

Managing sensitivity

Temporary tooth sensitivity is the most common side effect of whitening and usually resolves within 24 to 48 hours. To minimise discomfort, we recommend using a sensitivity toothpaste for two weeks before and after treatment, avoiding very hot or cold food immediately following sessions, and never exceeding the recommended treatment schedule.

Maintaining your result

Whitening results typically last between six months and two years depending on your diet and lifestyle. Regular professional cleans, reducing staining foods and drinks, and an annual top-up session will keep your smile bright for much longer. Your dentist will advise on the maintenance plan that suits your habits and goals.
