Colored Fillings

Natural-looking composite fillings repair cavities while blending with your enamel.

Tooth-coloured fillings restore teeth affected by decay, small fractures, or wear using a composite resin material carefully matched to the natural shade of your enamel. The result is a repair that is virtually invisible — functional, strong, and completely seamless with the rest of your smile.

Unlike old amalgam (silver-mercury) fillings, composite resin bonds directly to the tooth structure. This means less healthy tooth needs to be removed during preparation, and the restoration supports the remaining tooth rather than simply filling a hole. Over time, this reduces the risk of the tooth cracking around the filling.

When tooth-coloured fillings are used

  • Cavities: The most common use — decay is removed and the tooth is restored to its original shape and function.

  • Chipped or fractured teeth: Small chips to the edges of front teeth can be sculpted back with composite in a single appointment.

  • Worn teeth: Erosion or grinding damage can be built back up to restore tooth height and protect the enamel.

  • Replacing old amalgam fillings: Many patients choose to replace ageing or failing silver fillings with tooth-coloured composite for a cleaner, more natural appearance.

  • Closing small gaps: Minor spacing between front teeth can be addressed with composite bonding — a quick, reversible, and cost-effective alternative to veneers.

What to expect during treatment

The area is numbed with local anaesthetic before any work begins. The decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is carefully removed, and the cavity is cleaned and conditioned. The composite resin is applied in thin layers, shaped precisely, and hardened with a curing light. Finally, the filling is polished to a smooth finish and your bite is checked for comfort.

The entire process is usually completed in a single appointment. You may notice mild sensitivity to hot and cold for a few days after placement — this is normal and resolves as the tooth settles. With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, tooth-coloured fillings can last ten years or more.

A conservative, aesthetic choice

Tooth-coloured fillings represent the balance between excellent aesthetics and conservative dentistry — preserving what is natural while restoring what is lost, with a result you would never know was there.
